Falls Creek and surrounds - pram/Chariot friendly?

Postby Hisham » Sun 28 Nov, 2021 10:53 pm

Hi. Any of the non 4WD walking tracks around Falls Creek chariot/pram friendly? E.g. to any of the huts to the East, the AAWT or alternative tracks.

I have kids in tow (ie. can literally do that with the chariot) and seeing what we can do regarding day walks.

Most management and especially aqueduct tracks should be suitable. As far as I'm aware, such tracks are open to cyclists. Possible starting points are Langford West camp area, the management track going west past Mount Cope, and Langford Gap. The Wallaces Hut track is okay, but it's uphill going back. West of there is a short climb from near the Rover Lodge to Cope Hut and the southern part of the Langford West track. It is possible to ride to near the summit of Mount Nelse, with uphill sections at the gate and approaching Nelse. Management tracks tend to be bit bumpier than the aqueduct tracks

Short answer, lots to do.

Wallaces, Cope, Pretty Valley and Cope Saddle huts are all easily accessible assuming the chariot has big wheels and doesn't mind a bump or two. The aqueduct track from Langford Gap connects to Wallaces and Cope to the south. The Big River fire trail running north from Watchbed creek could also fit your needs but getting to the huts off it could be more challenging. Edmondsons is not far off the track but Johnsons could be more difficult. Fitzgeralds via the aqueduct and management track could be possible also but the normal way in is a narrow rutted single track. Ropers would also be possible in a day trip but difficult to say without knowing the ability of the vehicle and the puller. There is also Tawonga huts from Pretty Valley. 4km on a bumpy management road and a bit beyond if you like. From Pretty Valley to Cope Saddle hut you can continue to Ryders hut along the aqueduct. Ryders is a diversion from the new aqueduct track and you can follow the aqueduct to the eastern side of Mt. Jim where it begins but you have to return the same way.

Edit: and while I was typing and thinking Lops comes up with the goods.

Wednesday is the worst of it but the temps are really good. If the chariot has a rain cover the kids will be fine.
