Looking for hiking mates March 2023

Postby ramklovakinom » Fri 25 Nov, 2022 9:20 pm

Hello!

I will be visiting Australia from Canada in Feb/March (dates still TBD, but likely mid-late March), and I'd love to explore the wilderness of Tasmania while I'm here. I would be keen to explore anywhere really- it all looks beautiful- ideally for a multi-day trip to some mountains. I won't have a vehicle while I'm here, so am seeking anyone(s) who would be open to organizing a trip and helping with transport! Not to enthusiastic about these organized "tour" groups that are more into a luxury experience and cost $3000 plus! Would rather make some new local friends who can show me the land :) If not, also open to be pointed in the direction of a hiking group in Tasmania that I could join for a trip. All input is welcome :) Thank you!

I suggest joining a bushwalking club. Pandani is great! https://www.pandani.org.au/

Look up Club programs of Hobart, Pandani, Launceston, NWWC and Deloraine Walking Clubs. Study the form: Hard/Easy, locations and length of. ( Take a look at Listmap, using the "Tasmap" Basemap - it shows some popular tracks ). Contact the Walks Secretary and they will ask your experience and gear.

Then show up, sign a doc. ( next of kin etc ), pay a small fee and you will quickly learn about Tassie walking and best options. If you've brought the programs to this first walk then you can get help to tick the best for you. Buses around the island are perhaps a little irregular at the moment. I've no idea if TassieLink is back to full power re: the island circuit.

Hi and welcome to Australia in advance! I'm looking to do a 3-4 day walk of the Mt Anne Circuit in south west Tas in mid March. I'm from Sydney so I'd be relying on paying for a transfer, but that's a couple of hundred dollars compared with a couple of thousand for a guided tour.
